"It's the little things that make big things possible. Only close attention to the fine details of any operation makes the operation first class."

  -J. Willard Marriott

History

At Business Matters, we have been providing consulting services, training facilitators, developing curricula, and fostering the use of nontraditional training techniques since 1994.

We specialize in the field of community economic development, working with "microenterprise" programs -- programs that deliver entrepreneurial training and assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. Our materials are also used by elementary and high schools, junior colleges, universities, entrepreneurial centers, and other organizations that want to teach people the fundamentals of starting and managing a small business.

All of our materials are developed using brain based learning techniques. Our events are created and facilitated by Theresia Paauwe, President of Business Matters Training Resources, Inc.

Our mission is to be instrumental in improving the quality of training by teaching brain based training techniques and to develop materials that make implementation of those techniques easy to follow, enjoyable, and effective.

Our goal is to encourage trainers to create safe learning environments and facilitate activities and discussions that encourage learning through self discovery.

Our Beliefs:

True learning is manifested through increased comprehension, long term retention, and appropriate application of information

A trainer's primary responsibility is to facilitate learning

People learn best through self discovery

A true learning environment is one in which the learner feels safe

A trainer cannot motivate learners to learn, but learners can become self motivated if they understand how they can benefit from training

People receive and assimilate information in unique ways

In order to be effective, trainers must recognize the unique intake and learning style they are likely to encounter in a group of people

Trainers must be able to assess their own intake and learning styles, and thoughtfully prepare events that extend beyond their preferred style to meet the diverse needs of a group of learners

The learning experience should be enjoyable and rewarding

The relationship between trainers and learners must be based on shared objectives and mutual respect

Our Values

To honor God through our work and our lives

To follow our passions, utilize our talents, and be true to our life missions

To assist people in personal and professional growth

To strive to model excellence through our products, services, and actions
